1. The revitalised Haw Par Mansion and the memory of the Tiger Balm Garden
Haw Par Mansion and its private garden was built by Aw Boon Haw in 1936 for his family and named after him and his brother Aw Boon Par. The Mansion and its private garden, which were rarely visited by the public, has been conserved and revitalised into Haw Par Music, a platform for cross-cultural exchange focused on Chinese and Western music training.
Adjoining the Mansion once stood the famed Tiger Balm Garden, which was built at the same time as the Mansion and open for public enjoyment. Tiger Balm Garden was demolished for redevelopment in the 1990s, however, a selected collection of the artefacts and figurines have been restored and installed in dedicated locations within the revitalised Mansion and its private gardens.
2. Public Access and Guided Tours
The revitalised private garden and the interpretation areas (reception on L/G and main hall on G/F in the revitalised Mansion) are now open to public free of charge (prior registration NOT required for individuals or groups under 15 people) every Monday to Sunday (excluded public holiday).
Six specially designed guided tours per week led by trained docents provide not only access to the upper floors of the revitalised Mansion but also explanation of the history of the Aw Family, Haw Par Mansion and Tiger Balm Garden, and the formation of Haw Par Music. Prior online registration for these tours are required.
