As one of the most versatile musicians in Hong Kong, Otto Kwan is well sought after as a player of both the violin and the viola. He is engaged as a freelance musician for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and also performs with the Macao Orchestra regularly. He is currently the principal second violin of The Learners Orchestra and the Ponte Orchestra, as well as the principal viola of the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and the Global Symphony Orchestra. Otto enjoys working with local Cantopop artists including Eason Chan, Jacky Cheung and Sammi Cheng.
In 1991, Otto received coaching from Alan de Veritch, student of the legendary Scottish violist William Primrose, while studying under full scholarship at the Idyllwild Arts Academy Summer Programme in California. He joined the Asian Youth Orchestra in 1992, performing in many Asian countries with conductor Lukas Foss and soprano Elly Ameling. Since 2002, Otto has engaged himself as a full time instrumental teacher and holds a Certificate of Teaching by ABRSM.
