Haw Par Music Wellness Day | Disconnect to Reconnect

Haw Par Music Wellness Day | Disconnect to Reconnect

Haw Par Music, a Grade 1 historic building and formerly known as Haw Par Mansion, together with Encompass HK, a local social enterprise promoting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), curated the first-of-its-kind music and wellness programme at Haw Par Music on July 5, 2020 with over 150 participants. Our program on July 5 featured a holistic approach to wellness by providing a range of music-themed wellness talks, performances, and workshops that offer diverse opportunities for participants to improve their wellbeing (Sustainable Development Goal 3), with the theme “Disconnect to Reconnect”. Our aim was to engage the community in this unique historical site, away from the urban jungle, so that they could unplug from daily life and reconnect with their inner wellbeing.

The event included indoor and outdoor music performances from professional groups and medical professionals;  arts and crafts programs for children; wellness-themed workshops with family-friendly yoga, meditation, breathwork; and special talks. We also had programs like leaflute workshop which make use of natural elements to create musical instruments, and linked nature with music elements together in our unique venue. Our keynote talks included “Rhythm For Life And Wellbeing” by Professor Rainbow Ho, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Education) in the Faculty of Social Sciences from The University of Hong Kong, as well as “Welcome Music To Your Brain” by Dr. Paulina Wong, Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) from The Education University of Hong Kong.

We kept sustainability in mind and ensure all our events including food & beverages, water wells (provided by DBS x Urban Spring), logistics are all environmentally friendly. Though our event has less than a 1 month lead time, we were able to successfully engage the community and generate positive messages during these difficult COVID-19 times.
